Business Analyst – Business Intelligence (MicroStrategy)

The BI BSA will mainly be responsible for working with business leaders and BI consumers to identify reporting and analytical requirements, independently developing business requirement documents and technical and functional specifications, and working with BI developers to interpret specifications for product development. Much of the analysis work will involve interviewing business owners and gathering requirements. This role will have a specialization in analytic reporting and decision support.  The BI Business Analyst will also be involved with prototyping/wireframes and will need to have a good understanding of business intelligence reporting tools (specifically MicroStrategy).

Responsibilities:

  • Independently participate in requirements documentation, technical and functional specifications, and definition of acceptance criteria. Document issues and participate in their resolution
  • Translate business needs into high-level technical specifications and design
  • Work closely with development and business teams to understand and interpret business requirements
  • Develop deep understanding of the current BI deliverables to determine impact and integration of new projects
  • Work with the team to ensure the highest quality product delivery
  • Work closely with cross functional teams and across organizational boundaries to gather requirements, define solutions, implement new tools and process, and provide ongoing support to these teams
  • Communicate cross-functionally and across management levels in formal and informal settings
Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer and Information Science or related field required
  • 3+ years related experience developing requirements for BI/Reporting/Analytics
  • Working knowledge of BI and data warehouse concepts and terminology (Kimball)
  • Hands-on experience running queries and creating reports
  • Experience with analytical programming languages such as SQL
  • Experience with process flow diagrams
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in ambiguity and rapid change
  • Meticulous attention to detail; the ability to juggle several tasks in parallel
  • Detail-oriented person who is passionate about quality and enthusiastic about new technology
  • 1 to 3 years working in financial services industry, directly with data and reporting systems, preferred
  • 1 to 2 years of experience developing reporting solutions using MicroStrategy, preferred
  • 1 to 3 years power user level experience on a top tier BI tool (Cognos, Microstrategy, etc), preferred
